I’ve been down for a good few months, and progressively just ran away into playing games.   First it was Darklife within the world of Second Life, but then that gave me a taste for a fuller online game based in a virtual world of sorts.  I chose Rappelz, and I’m still playing that, but there is just no way I want to leave SL or my SL friends behind.  Finally I got to see the gender therapist provided by the National Health Service here in the UK – after 15 months FFS!  So I’m picking up a bit and seem to be getting somewhere.

Here’s a few photos of me and my friend Anna Zwiers catching up recently.  The last bit of my SL land has sold, and for now I’m going to rent from Anna, next door to her main plot.   I’m still getting into things, and have been forgetting to take photos, even while we’re running around some simulation of Japanese demons tearing up a city and torturing poor ickle people.

Speaking of other virtual worlds/MMOs

Speaking of other virtual worlds, and particularly game based ones, here’s a video from JellyBean Madison. She tends to specialise in making SL dance videos and celebrating her SL life on her blog, but here she’s making a little foray into World Of Warcraft.

Also, here’s a trailer for the game Rappelz, thta me and Anna Zwiers are going to check out. It’s free, but I’ve read that it may cost money to teleport to different zones, and that weapons cost real money. We shall see!  Original YouTube page.

Then there’s this one that comes to mind.  FlyFF (Fly For Fun) looks interesting, just for the fact that it’s cute and involves solo or team based battling.  Original YouTube page.

Rumours that the death of Geyl Fapp is a fraud??

Pffff, I was browsing the photos of Zoe Zeffirelli before, in the absence of the mighty grid, and she has posted a photo to say that Geyl Fapp’s death was a big fraud.  I’m still touched by the Second Life: Endgame video, and what it says is the things that do matter. However, I’m now deeply confused by all of this fuss.   This forum (translated from Dutch if the link still translates from Google Translate) has a link to a Dutch web news site, that is supposed to show that it was a fake, that Geyl Fapp was actually a guy who pretended to be Geyl and messed with other people on SL, then covered his tracks with a grandiose death. That news story has been deleted, so heaven knows what is going on.  The only information left is really the stuff being said by the moderators of the forum for SL residents that Geyl had a hand in setting up (I think).

I don’t know what to think, but I was chatting to my friend Anna this morning, and was saying how do we know the money we give to Relay For Life is going to the cancer charity?  It really makes me doubt things, and sometimes even in a virtual world, one needs a foundation of trust.  Trust in friends and in institutions like businesses and charities.

After a long bit of downtime for the grid, I caught up with my friend Anna Zwiers this morning, but then things crashed again.  Oh well, at least we got to check out Shu’s Guitar Shop and the sale there.  Fun guitars with a HUD to choose different animations and sounds.

2006 BBC Newsnight article on virtual worlds

Given recent problems with lag, and reinstalling Windows, I haven’t really been around SL much this last week.  So I’m sat here at relatives tonight and googling around for people like Natalie Zelmanov and Cory Edo, looking for learning materials and SL blog entertainment.  This story came up, and it’s an article and video from BBC’s Newsnight programme on virtual worlds.  It’s from 2006, but it’s still interesting, and it made me giggle seeing the virtual Jeremy Paxman LOLing on SL.

Down, down, down…blah

Blah! No not as in Tres Blah, who bring me good cheer with their girly girliness, but blah as in deflated, down, blahhhhhh. I’ve been feeling down IRL for some time, and we’re talking proper mild depression here folks. Yesterday really didn’t help. I was all fired up for the ongoing protest against copyright theft at Neo Body Fashions at Marwood, and for the last couple of days someone keeps bombing the sim and at least one neighbouring sim with chat spam coming from objects.

I’m pretty sure that it’s the pirates themselves, as I saw a guy standing on the edge of the crashed Marwood sim and his hand had a semi-transparent prim on it, which suddenly poofed with dots, the way our hands send out a stream when we build. Just at that moment chat spam started. He couldn’t talk very good english, and sounded rather like the Brazilian owner of the pirate store. Funnily enough, as the sim came back up, and we both entered, I had to walk the long way around and by the time I was there, one of the pirate’s group was in the store, big black cape and Friday 13th hockey mask. He disappeared, and something made me think that he was there just long enough to show his presence to file an abuse report, at chat spam that was probably caused by his group. The spam is mind boggling, and OK, now I know how to sometimes mute the object in the pop-out to the right of the chat window. But, I go there to protest, wave my sign, shout appeals not to buy there, and the sim gets crashed OVER, AND OVER, AND OVER. If there is a protester that is doing it, I wish they would stop, as it’s doing nobody any favours. Again, that’s why I suspect that it’s the pirates themselves. Wear down the protesters, make it look like they’re being persecuted themselves and file abuse reports. Blahhhhh.

SL seems to be sucking loads of CPU usage right now, and I suspect that a DSL filter is on it’s way out, as my phone is rather hummy. I wonder if that’s causing packet loss, and I’m a bit puzzled at my CPU usage being 75%. I have a 3 year old Pentium 4 3.2GHz, with 1 gig of RAM. OK, so now I could get a dual core, it’s 3 years old, but it’s easily up to SL specs. All told, SL is not working very well right now, and it’s no bloody fun.

Methinks it’s time to log out, watch a noisy movie, write the letter of complaint about the Health Service putting of therapy for my Gender Identity Disorder for another 6 months, and clear my brain. Then I’ll come back and logically start adressing things that may be screwing up SL. This video seems rather apt……

Ill and silly

I’ve been ill for a few days and when you’re drained, but can’t sleep, it’s either TV or the computer. Sorting my SL inventory with my best friend Anna won, and here’s me sat on a stool from a treasure hunt. I’m in underwear coz I’m putting clothes on and taking them off, seeing what I want to keep. The boots, top hat and bendy straw in mouth? That’s coz I’m bleedin’ ill and feelin’ silly.
